Amanda Jamison, IT

Amanda joined The Wills Group in 2008 as a junior developer while still in college. Since then, she has been developing software for eight years, and has been promoted to Senior Developer.

Amanda was immediately drawn to her work at The Wills Group, which she says “was more current and up to date than I what I was learning at school.” She was also drawn to the geographic location of Southern Maryland. “This is the area I want to be. I have lived in urban and rural settings and for me this is the right mix of both.”

With her years of experience with the company, Amanda went from “just taking instructions from my supervisor and executing goals” to becoming a leader and “increasingly a part of the strategic discussion around why and how our work supports the business units.” As she is currently poised to be promoted to supervisor, Amanda reflects on how The Wills Group has helped her professionally grow and succeed: “The company is focused on learning, and is very responsive to employee needs and goals. Culturally, we set out a learning plan that is employee-focused, not company-focused.” As a result, Amanda says that The Wills Group’s team-oriented business environment “encourages people to work across the company and continue to build their skills” and allows employees to take responsibility “to help others learn and grow and expand.”

Amanda also participates in the Emerging Leaders Program, which she says “is about getting a broader view of the business at large and understanding how to strategically grow the business.” The program is an evolution from the management program, with two tracks that allow employees to “hone and improve their current skill set.” The program is set up so that employees decide what skills and goals they want to work on. For Amanda, The Wills Group and The Emerging Leaders Program have helped her expand her on the job skills and continue to learn and grow professionally while taking on “stretch assignments relevant to my work.”
